On Friday 13th of April (a very appropriate date!) Derren Brown launched his new TV show ‘Trick or Treat’.
The show is the latest in a long line of controversial yet brilliant series starring Derren including ‘Trick of the Mind’ the shocking ‘Russian Roulette’ and the much complained about ‘Seance’ show where he managed to set up a fake seance and convince all its participants they were witnessing paranormal phenomena.
It has become the third most complained about show ever and judging by the first episode of his new ‘Trick of Treat’ series on Friday this could be just as controversial.
Trick or Treat’s first episode aired on Friday 13th and as usual it definitely didn’t disappoint!
Derren sets out to shock and amaze his audiences and that’s exactly what he does in this first show.
After giving TV’s ‘The league of gentlemen’ a lesson in Fate and Destiny involving Swiss rolls laced with razorblades none the less, Derren moved on to his big challenge; making a man fall asleep in a photo booth in England and wake up in the same Photo booth half way around the world. Scary stuff! The poor guy literally looked as though he was going to pass out with shock when he woke up in a completely different country.
Whilst we can never be 100% sure that the whole thing wasn’t staged, Derren Brown’s ability to use his highly developed skills of Magic and Mind Control is so impressive you just can’t help but find yourself amazed and enthralled by what he does, and his shows make for truly compulsive viewing.
Rumour has it that ‘Trick or Treat’ is going to get even more shocking as the series progresses, so don’t forget to tune in every Friday night for the next 6 weeks or so and see for yourself if it truly does live up to the hype!

the second episode was, quite possibly, the most intense, disturbing, amazing and compelling TV i think i’ve ever seen. A man get hypnotised into thinking he’s a ventriloquist’s puppet. The man is asked to tell a real puppet a dark secret which is then revealed by himself.. hard to explain but it made for exceptionally dark viewing. i can’t wait for the next episode

if you look at the trick or treat cards upside down the cards say both trick and treat depending on what way there are held up. So darren can decide weather it is a trick or treat!!!

I thought the bit last night where he taught a lady to play poker was too rushed, they missed out so many details that it just didn’t seem plausible.

Brilliant show.
I know what he is doing most of the time, but he is on a totally different level than I am.
You sometimes have to wonder HOW he finds out what he can get away with.
The “Trick or Treat” cards are a bit daft, though. They are two identical cards showing different depending on which way is held up.
I would love to meet this guy, One other thing to do if you win the proverbial lottery. Hire him as your mentor for observation skills.

One thing that I’ve noticed.. you can also tell how the trick AND treat cards are facing by the back (you may have noticed that the cards have the letter T printed on the back side). It’s written Trick from where the T points upwards on the back.
so if you see the cards in the show looking like —| —| then you know it’s Trick
and of course.. if they look like |— |— it’s Treat on the other side.
(I found a lot of resourceful material on what Derren does and studied some.. but it doesn’t ever feel enough. The guy is great though)
