Showing on E4 on Monday 12th March at 9pm was the 2002 comedy classic ‘Van Wilder’ directed by Walt Becker and starring funnyman Ryan Reynolds as the main character Van Wilder himself and notorious party girl Tara Reid as his reluctant love interest Gwen Pearson.
Van Wilder is the son of a wealthy businessman (Tim Matheson) living the high life at college without having to worry about his fees and where his next handout is coming from.
However this soon changes when his father cuts off his money and decides its time that Van makes his own way in life, leaving him to come up with some other way of making enough to cover his tuition fees by himself.
Van soon decides he must turn to the only he thing he truly knows how to do - party!!!
He becomes a party planner and begins to charge the high school geeks with no clue about the practicalities and this involves vast amounts of cash in return for throwing them one of his legendary parties.
The business soon takes off and Van is in his element, but he begins to get caught up when he spots the girl of his dreams ‘Gwen Pearson’ and tries everything in his power to woo her.
This is without doubt a laugh out loud comedy, but it also features some of Ryan Reynolds’ trademark cringeworthy and often disgusting scenes that although often very humorous, are sometimes a little over the top!
A perfect example of an over the top scene is when the ‘éclairs’ are sent to the fraternity brothers. I still can’t watch that scene without feeling ill, and I’m sure most of you probably felt the same!
That sort of thing is what made the film get such high ratings though, it really does go for the ‘Shock Factor’ and manages to pull it off with ease, whilst still remaining a genuinely funny film.
Van Wilder – Party Liaison is definitely worth a watch, but keep in mind that if you are easily offended then it may not be quite the movie for you. However, if you like your humour slapstick, offensive and crude then this is probably going to be your kind of film!

On Monday 5th March ‘The Sopranos’ made its much welcome return back to our screens at 11:05pm on Channel 4.
For those of you that haven’t seen the series before here’s a brief synopsis of what the show is about, the cast and crew and what you can expect from upcoming episodes.
The show revolves around the lives of a group of men and their families who run the American Italian Mob. Mafia Boss ‘Tony Soprano’ is the lead character who gives the show an infectious kind of charm.
With his struggle to run the ‘family business’ proving to be tougher than ever, we follow the lives of him and his wife and kids as they struggle to remain close despite the obvious turmoil that Tony’s lifestyle can bring upon them.
Consumed by the stress of his job, and after taking his frustration out on long suffering wife Carmella one time too many he decides to seek therapy with the stunning psychiatrist Dr Jennifer Melphi, but this proves to be a decision that will open a whole new can of worms for an unsuspecting Tony.
I really like the scenes where Tony’s shrink says things that elsewhere in his life Tony would have people beaten up or killed for stepping over the line in this way. The power relationship between the two is unusually reversed.
The key characters in the show are Tony’s friends, cousins and ‘work associates’ a kind of motley crew of mismatched personalities who you cant help but find yourself warming to.
Tony’s Cousin Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli) has a lot of major storylines and is fast becoming one of the main figures in all of the major story arcs throughout each series.
The Sopranos is a fantastic mix of tense drama, action and comedy that just seems to work with such ease that once you have watched a few episodes you will find yourself completely hooked on the show.
Season six looks set not to disappoint fans either with Tony facing even more challenges than ever and trying to come to terms with the fact that his children may be growing up fast, but still need their father around from time to time.
With Johnny Sack now in prison and the strain on the families beginning to worsen, we see things build to a fantastic climax.
Several brilliant guest stars are lined up for the series including: Julianna Margulies from ER, Elizabeth Bracco from ‘Analyze This’ and Jerry Adler from ‘In Her Shoes’ plus many more so keep a look out for them.
James Gandolfini once again plays the role of Tony Soprano to perfection and sets the new series up to be fantastic judging by this intense and captivating first episode. Don’t miss the rest of the series!
